AIOU offers M.Phil, Ph.D Programs on Balochi & Brahvi
Islamabad , Jan 19 (Online): Allama Iqbal OLpen University (AIOU) will continue to offer education at MSc, M.Phll and Ph.D level in local Pakistani languages, including Balochi and Brahvi.
This was stated by Vice Chancellor Prof. D. Shahid Siddiui while addressing concluding ceremony of an international conference, held at the AIOU,
Chief Minister Baluchistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch who was chief guest on the occasion praised the academic role of AIOU for promoting local languages especially Balochi and Brahvi and said his province was taking legislative and administrative measures in various phases for introducing them at School, Colleges and University level.
The CM Said educational institution like AIOU deserved great appreciation for teaching of these languages at the level of M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D.
The conference was addressed by eminent scholars from USA, Spain, and Sweden, besides a number of others from various parts of the country. The conference’s proceeding was also witnessed through video-conferencing in Germany. Number of session was held during which the scholars and experts on Balochi and Brahvi languages presented their papers.
Welcoming the participants, Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui assured that the University will continue to attach high priority to the promotion of local languages. The University’ Department of local languages was doing this job for the last two decades. He hoped that holding of such international conference on local languages will be an annual feature, assuring that the University will be extended all possible support for this purpose.
The Chief Minister further said that his government was also providing financial support for the introduction of the local languages throughout the province. Budgetary allocation for the purpose has been increased. Besides this study of three languages Balochi, Brahvi and Pushto are being made compulsory from this year through proper legislation.
He advised the educationists and intellectuals to hold research work on further projection and popularization of these languages. The Provincial Govt. has already made its contribution by translating some worthwhile Urdu and English books into local language.
He assured the Brahvi Academy Pakistan that they will be allotted a proper piece of land in the province for constructing their own office. He advised the Academic to arrange seminars on Balochi heroes like Gul Khan Naseer for promotion of their cultural values.
He announced a grant of Rs. 2-million as a financial assistance for holding the conference in a befitting manner. He thanked Dr. Shahid Siddiqui for making the event successful.
Abdul Malik Baloch also spoke about the importance of the local languages for overall socio-economic development of the country. Languages, he added carry great strength for promoting unity and national culture.
Baluchistan Provincial Minister, Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani also addressed the conference and underlined the importance of local languages in spreading love and fraternity among the people, adding that provincial government will be taking all possible steps to give the languages a proper place in educational network.
The Conference was arranged by the Brahvi Academy Pakistan in collaboration with the AIOU’s Pakistani languages Department and Sughar Empowerment Society. Speakers at the conference inclouded Dr. Abdullah Jan Abid, Head of Pakistanis Languages Department and Hakim Ali Buriro, Ziaur Rehman Baluch and Abdul Wajid of the Department.
