Army cancels Defence Day ceremony
Rawalpindi, August 31 (Online): In the wake of tense situation in Islamabad, Pakistan Army on Sunday cancelled its Defence Day ceremony scheduled to be held in GHQ Rawalpindi on Sunday.
Sources said federal ministers and all three services chiefs were due to attend the event that was scheduled for today in Pakistan Army’s GHQ auditorium in connection with Defence Day (September 6)
The violence, which began late Saturday and continued early Sunday, erupted after around 25,000 people marched from parliament to the prime minister’s house, where some attempted to remove barricades around it with cranes.
Police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.
